Additional Information From the Colton Storm catalogue: "This excellent series of letters is mounted in a copy of 'Shapleigh's General Hardware Catalog No. 250...' The letters are numbered in blue pencil 1-255; two of the numbers are filled by photographs, several numbers were skipped and letters for two numbers have been removed from the volume. The series comprises reports of the daily operation of a Wyoming ranch, accounts, tallies, etc. Most of the time Divine worked for the CK Ranch near Casper, Wyoming. The CK Ranch was one of the four ranches which made up the J.M. Carey and Bro. outfit, the headquarters of which was at Inez (later Careyhurst), Wyoming. E.T. David was the manager, Divine was foreman of the CK Ranch. The letters contain a good deal of material about cattle rustlers (including an encouter with the Hole-in-the-Wall gang) court trials, round-ups, and the day-to-day management of a large ranch. Divine's early life was spent as a rancher in Arkansas; he was about fifty-five when he found work with the CK Ranch and he was then supporting a wife and sixteen children."
