Title Pacific City was laid out in May, 1857; soon after the first house was commenced
Date 1857
Document Type Broadside
Region Iowa
Places Pacific City, Missouri River, Platte River Valley
Keywords sale of land, law, city planning, negotiations, land speculation, railroad, housing, settlement
Theme Railroads, Transportation and Urban History
Additional Information From the Colton Storm catalogue: "In 1859, Luke Tierney's Pikes Peak Guide was published in Pacific City at the Herald Office, A. Thomson, printer. Perhaps the 'Herald' was successor to the 'Pacific City Enterprise' mentioned in this broadside. Pacific City has disappeared. The railroad, the bridge over the river, the drop in river traffic all caused its end. The 1845 'Iowa Gazetteer' only mentions the post office."
