Additional Information Full title: "Horn’s overland guide, from the U.S. Indian sub-agency, Council Bluffs, on the Missouri River, to the city of Sacramento, in California: containing a table of distances, and showing all the rivers, creeks, lakes, springs, mountains, hills, camping-places, and other prominent objects: with remarks on the country, roads, timbers, grasses, curiosities, etc...: with a complete and accurate map". From the Colton Storm catalogue: "This is the first issue of the 'Guide'. On page 5 under "Certificates" no newspaper notices appear as they do in later issues. The date 1852 is on the title-page. On page 68 there appears the advertisement of the Council Bluffs Agency Ferry, which appears on page [84] of later issues. The present copy was carried across the plains in 1853 and contains many notes and corrections in pencil, unquestionalbly by the owner who made the notes as he covered the route across the plains.-EDG Best handbook for the central route availiable at the time. The first issue has no newspaper comments on page eight."
