Additional Information From the Colton Storm catalogue: "On December 9th a Committee of five met the City's Board of Trustees and presented their draft of a City Charter. After some discussion and amendment, it was approved for presentation to the Citizens, and 500 copies were ordered to be printed. It was adopted at a public meeting on January 23, 1837, and was forwarded to Springfield. The Charter was passed by the Legislature, and approved March 4th, 1837, but it had been printed following the meeting on Dec 9 (1836) and prior to approval by the Legislature on March 4th. Both the Streeter and Chicago Historical Society copies bear notice of the March 4th approval, hence were printed subsequent to that approval."
