Cattle Ranchers, Grazing and Trails

The unforgiving landscape of the Great Plains was still unsettled long after the first colonies were created. It wasn’t until cowboys and cattle ranchers realised the potential in the vast amount of land and wild herds of cattle that they became the first Europeans to move there permanently. The so-called “beef bonanza” of increasing demand in the east soon made cattle ranching a hugely profitable business, and the history of this fascinating epoch can be traced through a variety of material.
